REASONS THE ALMIGHTY GOD WOULD BRING JUDGMENT UPON A NATION.
Lev 18:24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of
these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before
25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.
In verse 24, the Lord God Almighty declares that because those nations had "defiled" themselves and the land, He cast them out from the land, and He warns His people not to defile themselves like those nations had. What did the nations do to defile the land? What would cause God to destroy nations? Why would the land itself vomit out her inhabitants?
According to context in Leviticus 18, and also in Leviticus 20, Sexual Immorality (specifically, incestuous relationships, adultery, homosexuality and bestiality), Infanticide, and Idolatry are what causes nations to be judged by God. Each one of these sins are defined in Leviticus 18 as an abomination to God (Lev 18:29). Some would argue that this is a passage from the Old Testament, and we are not under Law, but under Grace, so these prohibitions do not apply to us.
But is that true?
Think about it. Did God change His mind concerning those things He called "abominations" when Jesus died for the sins of the world? Contrary to what many false teachers who have crept into the Church would have you to believe, the New Testament reaffirms the fact that God's Standards for Holiness have not changed.
In 1 Cor 5:1, Paul addresses an issue of immorality that was occurring in the Church at Corinth.
1Co 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
In Leviticus 18:8, we read this prohibition:
Lev 18:8 The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness.
Leviticus 20:11 even goes a little further:
Lev 20:11 And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
If the Biblical definition of Grace was what the false teachers who seek to fatten their checking accounts by tickling your ears say it is, then the logical answer to the issue that Paul was addressing would be "Well, they love each other, and surely God would not condemn a person for loving someone! Let them continue in their fornication. After all, they are tithe paying members, and we are no longer under the Law, but under Grace." But that is not the position that Paul took. Paul's answer to the situation was to put the offending parties out of the fellowship (Read 1 Cor 5:2-13). The Grace of God is seen by the fact that Paul didn't order them to be stoned to death. But his sentence was to put them out of the fellowship, and to have nothing to do with them, until they repented of their sins. Why? Because they would influence the rest of the congregation to think that such behavior was acceptable to God. But it is NOT (see verses 6 & 7).
In Lk 15, Jesus taught the parable of the prodigal son. The son decided to go his own way, and to live a riotous life. He was out of fellowship with his father and his father's household. While he was away from his father, he was considered to be "dead". But when his world fell apart around him, he came to his senses, returned to his father's house, and confessed his sin to his father, and he was restored in his relationship with his father (Lk 15:1-32). Paul declared that this one who had committed such an abomination should be "put out of the house," away from the comfort and covering of the Church, and delivered unto Satan "for the destruction of the flesh" so that his spirit might be saved in the Day of the Lord Jesus. In other words, when he realizes that such a life given over to sin will only lead him to ruin, he might actually come to repentance and return to a right relationship with God.
There are many in the Church today who have been coddled with their sins by a false definition what Grace is who will bust hell wide open when they die. The problem with the Church today is that if we adhered to Paul's principles, most of the "mega" churches would go bankrupt. Most large churches are filled with fornicators, covetous, idolaters, railers, drunkards and extortionists, because their pastors are in the same spiritual condition as the people they lead. What has happened to the Church in America is that those who profess to be Christians and yet who engage in these sins are naturally inclined to gravitate toward one another, and to find pastors that will give them a salve for their consciences.
Covetous pastors attract covetous sheep. Covetousness is defined as idolatry (Col 3:5). There are whole denominations that profess to be adherents to the principles of Faith that are fed by covetous teachers, who attract covetous Christians. "I want salvation, but I also like my Lexus and my Rolex, and my toys. This pastor assures me that I can have all those, and a whole lot more. The more I give, the more I will get! Hallelujah! I just love those beautiful Crystal chandeliers in the foyer of our church!" Men whose eyes are set upon the glitz and the glamour of the world have appointed themselves as pastors to congregations of people who love their worldly possessions so much that they don't want to hear a message about denying themselves, or not laying treasures up for themselves. These men have crept in and trained themselves in "Christianese" so they can give a convincing argument as to why God wants His children to heap to themselves treasures where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. Don't misunderstand me. I do believe that God can and will bless His people financially. But He blesses His children so that His children can be a blessing to others and to spread the gospel of the Kingdom of God. He is faithful to take care of our needs. But our greeds are an abomination to Him. God promised Israel that He would drive them out of the Land which He brought them to if they chased after the gods of the world (Deu 29:12-29). His Standards haven't changed with the New Covenant:
Col 3:1 If ye then be risen
with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the
right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Men whose hearts have been filled with desire for other men's wives have appointed themselves as pastors to congregations that have similar desires. Divorce and remarriage is no longer a rarity in the church. If you get tired of a spouse, don't bother working it out. Just get a divorce and find one that is more suited to you. You can find plenty of pastors who will sympathize with you, and you can live your life feeling good about your adulterous relationship. The divorce rate in the church today is just as high as it is in the world. According to Leviticus 18:20, this is one of the abominations that causes God to destroy a nation. Again, God's Standards of morality haven't changed under the New Covenant.
Mat 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
Rom 7:3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
Obviously fornication is the exception to the rule when it comes to grounds for divorce. Any other reason is defined in the Word of God as adultery. And God's Judgment comes upon a land because of this sin. But today even in the Church, Christian teachers have redefined the Grace of God as permission to get a divorce on ANY grounds. If you get tired of your mate, you can find another one.
I need to say that there are many who have gotten divorces and remarried in ignorance to the Word of God. There are even some who have received counsel from their pastor to do so. What shall these people do? Because of the rampant incidence of the divorce and remarriage in the Church that has occurred because of wrong teaching, this is a tough question. This is my opinion…and every person has to answer to God, and not my opinion. I believe that God is merciful, and he meets us where we are at. He had mercy on Paul who did the things that he did in ignorance and in unbelief. Paul couldn't bring the Christians back to life that he had killed. If what you did was done ignorantly, or if you didn't believe that God would judge you for your sin, confess your sin to God and resolve not to commit that same sin again. If you decide to do it again anyway after you have received the knowledge of the truth, I do believe there may be a certain fearful looking forward to Judgment.
Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully
after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more
sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Men and women who have given their lives over to homosexuality have appointed themselves as pastors over congregations of homosexuals, lesbians and pedophiles, and have started denominations around their "gay agenda". But God drove the nations out of their land because of this sin (Leviticus 18:25-27).
With the advent of the internet, Pornography is running rampant among Christians who go into their closets, not to pray, but to feed their lusts. It is interesting that Leviticus 18 mentions uncovering the nakedness of others as being an abomination to God; not only uncovering the nakedness of another person to have sex with them.
Lev 18:7 The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
The list is extensive, and this Standard was what Jesus was addressing when He said:
Mat 5:27 Ye have heard that
it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Christians who are caught up in this "abomination" of pornography naturally gravitate toward pastors who will tickle their ears and tell them they are just "sinners saved by grace", and "hey, it's wrong, but don't worry. God understands". Many pastors themselves are caught up in that very sin, so they will tickle people's ears to soothe their own conscience. They might be strong in condemning others who are caught up in the abomination of homosexuality while they themselves are entangled in the bondage of pornography, which is also an abomination in God's eyes. I would be lying if I said I never fell for that temptation myself. I would be lying if I said I never had lustful thoughts toward other women other than my wife. I have slipped, and even wallowed in those thoughts for a moment. But I have determined in my heart to abide in Christ, and not in the lusts of my flesh. When I found myself in sin, I did not take God's Grace lightly ("God knows my weaknesses. He'll forgive me if I indulge myself for a while."). I went before His Throne of Grace and repented before Him, and resolved in my heart not to remain in that sin. I called on Him to create in me a clean heart and to renew a right spirit within me. He is not only Able, He is Willing to meet us in that prayer. We are called to actively resist sin.
Heb 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
It is because of men and women giving into their lustful imaginations that God has driven the nations out of their land (Lev 18:6-17).
20:22 Ye shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do
them: that the land, whither I bring you to dwell therein, spue you not out.
24 And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.
I really don't know how prevalent abortion is in the Church, but I do know that the Church has been largely silent concerning abortion (infanticide); and God said it was because of this sin of offering their seed to Molech (no time here to elaborate, but the heathen often offered their first born children in sacrifice to their gods, and it is generally the first pregnancy that is terminated in abortion, although some have multiple abortions) that He drives a people from their land.
The problem with our country is not "out there in the world".
The problem with our country is that the Church is no longer presenting a viable standard of the Biblical Righteousness that God's Holiness demands. The "professional clergy" are allowing God's Standards to become blurred in exchange for the Mammon of unrighteousness. They have perverted the message of God's Grace. "Well, Lance. You said that the grace that is being taught by many teachers is not the same as the Grace that is taught in the Bible. What is the Biblical definition of Grace?" I am glad you asked.
Tit 2:11 For the grace of
God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Honestly, now. I am not writing this to bring condemnation on anyone. But until we as the members of the Body of Christ repent of our worldly ways, our nation is in serious peril. Ask yourself "Am I living soberly? Am I living a righteous life before God? Is my conduct before God (in your private life) and men truly godly? Are those things that displease God out of my life, or am I at least actively striving against them?" If you answered no to any of these, then you need to repent.
Reject that Sloppy Grace-Feel good about your sins-you're just a sinner saved by grace-I said the prayer and pay my tithes so I am all right message, and embrace that Grace that Jesus Christ offers you: The Grace that enables you to walk free from the bondage of sin, to be a saint of God, and not a sinner. The Grace that purifies you and sets you apart from the world. The Grace that motivates and enables you to make a difference in this world as you further the Kingdom of God.
Because of our (Christians) blurring of the lines of God's Standards of Holiness, someday (if not this election maybe the next one or the one after that) we will get a president who wholeheartedly endorses homosexuality and "gay marriage", and even incestuous relationships; who will turn his efforts to passing Hate Crimes that protect homosexuals even from preachers who would denounce the practice based on Biblical authority. Eventually we will see Homosexual's rights trump the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion that our Constitution has promised us, not just because he is a wicked president, but because the Church has stopped calling sin for what it is while redefining the meaning of Grace.
Someday we will get a president that wholeheartedly endorses abortion and even infanticide and Euthanasia under the guise of a person's right to choose, not just because he is a wicked president, but because the Church has allowed the lines of that which is sacred and that which is profane to be blurred in the name of Grace.
Someday we will get a president that wholeheartedly agrees that any reference to God must be taken out of the public domain, and laws will be passed to restrict freedom of speech, and the right to peaceful assembly, not just because he is a wicked president, but because the Church has grown silent and has ignored the mandate to "go and preach the gospel" so as not to offend anyone.
Then God will bring His Righteous Judgment on this nation.
Romans chapter one speaks of a progression which takes place in the hearts of men that leads to His Judgment.
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of
God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,
who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Even at this hour, I don't believe it is altogether too late. God requires repentance on the part of His people. If Christians who are guilty of covetousness will repent of their covetousness; If Christians who are guilty of adultery will repent of their adultery; If Christians who are guilty of perversity will repent of their perverse ways; If Christians who are guilty of their general compromise will repent of their compromise, there is still hope.
Col 3:1 If ye then be risen
with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the
right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
