IV. WHAT WE BELIEVE CONCERNING THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
We believe that because of man made traditions and false teachings, there are several misconceptions that the average person has regarding the Christian Church. The term "church" in the Bible does not refer to a building where people go to assemble to worship God. Every where the word "church" is seen in the Bible, the Greek word from which it was originallly translated is the word "ecclessia", which means the "called out ones", or those who have been born again, and who follow Jesus Christ.
Act 11:22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
Rom 16:5 Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my wellbeloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.
1Co 14:12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
Act 5:11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
Rom 16:15 Salute Philologus, and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints which are with them.
Notice that buildings don't have ears, buildings can't have fear, and the "church" was in their house; it was NOT the house, and we are to edify not the building, but the body of believers that fellowship with one another.
We Believe That The Term "Saint" In The Bible Does Not Designate A Holy Man Or Woman Who Has Passed On, But That It Refers To Every Born Again Child Of God, Whether Living Or Dead.
Rom 1:7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Rom 15:25 But now I go unto Jerusalem to
minister unto the saints.
26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contributionfor
the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.
Act 9:41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.
Act 26:10 Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.
Eph 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:
Phi 1:1 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
Col 1:2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1Ti 5:9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man, 10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
Heb 13:24 Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.
2Co 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:
2Co 9:12 For the administration of this service
not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings
unto God;
13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your
professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution
unto them, and unto all men;
We Believe That Embracing Man-Made Traditions Will Result In Error And Deviation From The Truths That Are Taught In The Bible, Which Will In Turn Hinder A Person From True Salvation. We Believe That Our Preaching And Teaching Must Include Exposing Those Traditions For What They Are And That Those In Ministry Are to Preach The Uncompromised Gospel Of Jesus Christ.
1Th 2:4 But as we were allowed of God to
be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but
God, which trieth our hearts.
5 For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke
of covetousness; God is witness:
6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might
have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
2Ti 2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance,
charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit,
but to the subverting of the hearers.
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to
be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
2Co 4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
Act 20:27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
As the Church, or those who are called out by the Lord, we are to assemble together with like minded believers. The purpose of assembling together is to worship God, and to help each other walk the Christian walk. The role of those who are active in ministry is to equip the Church to fulfill their calling. They do this through preaching and teaching the Word of God:
Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and
some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the
edifying of the body of Christ:
Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another
to provoke unto love and to good works:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some
is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
We believe that because of man's rebellion against the Will of God, the world system as we know it is under Satan's control. Death, disease, greed, wars, poverty, and oppression are all the fruits of Satan's rule over the kingdoms of this world. Jesus Christ has commissioned his Church to establish the Kingdom of God in all the world by preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, and in the fellowship of the believers we each become equipped to do that through the instruction of those who God has put in leadership in the Church. Each member of the Church is to obey the Lord's commission to go and preach the Gospel and make disciples. The Bible refers to all Christians as a priesthood of believers.
2Co
4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe
not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of
God, should shine unto them.
Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them,
saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and,
lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a
royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth
the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous
light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which
had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
We Believe That The Unity Of The Christian Church Is Essential To Achieve The Goal Of Establishing The Kingdom Of God In Our Cities And Our Nation, And That Exclusive Denominationalism Is A Device Of Satan To Render The Christian Church Powerless Through Division And Strife. All Who Repent Of Their Sins And Confess Jesus Christ As Lord And Savior Are Born Of The Holy Spirit Of God, And Are Children Of The Most High God, And Our Brothers And Sisters In The Faith. Those Who Have No Desire For Unity In The Church Are Of The Same Spirit As Cain, Who Slew His Brother Abel And As Such Need To Repent.
1 Co 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were
called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that
ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but
that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are
of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos;
and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified
for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
1Co 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul;
and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed,
even as the Lord gave to every man?
6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
Luk 11:17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you,
That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one
to another.
1Jo 3:10 In this the children of God are
manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness
is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should
love one another.
12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore
slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
THE ORDINANCES OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
WATER BAPTISM
We believe that water baptism is essential for every Christian in as much as Jesus Christ commanded it to be observed. We believe that water baptism is necessary after one has repented of his or her sin, and has called on Jesus Christ to be the Lord of their life. Jesus Christ said "he that believes and is baptized shall be saved." As such, we believe that infant baptism is another man made tradition that has no Biblical warrant, since an infant has no ability to make a decision to believe in or to reject Jesus Christ.
Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of
the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and,
lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into
all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth
not shall be damned.
Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were
pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles,
Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the
gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are
afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Act 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching
the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they
were baptized, both men and women. 13 Then Simon himself believed also: and
when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the
miracles and signs which were done.
14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received
the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive
the Holy Ghost:
16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in
the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Col 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which
is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands,
in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through
the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we
continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were
baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ
was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should
walk in newness of life.
COMMUNION OR THE LORD'S SUPPER
We believe that the act of taking communion is a holy and sacred observance that Jesus Christ instituted for His Church. It is more than a mere religious experience; it is a time of reflection and self examination as we remember the sacrifice that Jesus Christ gave of Himself for us on the cross. As we remember His sacrifice, we are to resolve to give of ourselves for Him, and to forsake our self serving ways. As Jesus Christ gave Himself for us, we ought to have the same mind, to give of ourselves for others. The Greek word translated as "communion" is "koininea", and it means to fellowship or to partner with someone. In taking the bread and the wine, we are pledging our partnership with him in our comfort, as well as our sufferings.
1Co 11:23 For I have received of the Lord
that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in
which he was betrayed took bread:
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is
my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying,
This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink
it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's
death till he come.
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord,
unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink
of that cup.
29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation
to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
1Co 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless,
is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break,
is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers
of that one bread.
18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices
partakers of the altar?
19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in
sacrifice to idols is any thing?
20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice
to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship
with devils. 21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils:
ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness
with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;
if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to
be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
2Co 1:3 Blessed be God, even the Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort
them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted
of God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth
by Christ.
6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which
is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer:
or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the
sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
WORSHIP
We believe worship is intended to be both corporate, as well as personal. We believe true worship should be spontaneous and unorchestrated by man. We believe in the freedom to express our worship in whatever way we feel best expresses our gratitude and adoration for the Almighty God, as long as it is done with modesty and decency. This could include, but is not limited to raising our hands, clapping, praying and singing in the spirit, dance, the use of instruments, song, shouts of praise, bowing down, kneeling at the altar or elsewhere in the sanctuary, or in quiet contemplation. We believe that worship is not just limited to the service in the sanctuary, but it is to e an extension of our every day life. We are to be worshippers of God 24/7. A Christian's lifestyle should be one of joyous and reverent worship.
Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is,
when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth:
for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and
in truth.
Mat 15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy
of you, saying,
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with
their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments
of men.
Jud 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Isa 43:21 This people
have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.
BUT GOD IS SOVERIEGN - HE'S NOT LIMITED TO THE LAYING ON OF HANDS TO WORK HIS MIRACLES
Act 19:12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
